Environmental Health Officer – (Full time)
Applications are invited from interested persons for the above full-time position of Environmental Health Officer to be based at our Cootamundra and Gundagai offices.
This position is responsible for the administration of all statutory obligations of the Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council pursuant to the Local Government Act, Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, Protection of the Environment Operations Act, Public Health Act, Food Act and Council’s policies and procedures.
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensures the relevant statutes, Council objectives and policies are satisfied and enforced when performing inspections and evaluating other matters associated with environmental and public health regulation and compliance.
- Ensures public compliance with the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act, Food Act, Public Health Act, Impounding Act, Protection of the Environment Operations Act, Local Government Act.
- Research, analyse and interpret relevant legislation, codes, policies, procedures and apply them in a practical context.
- Ensure customer enquiries and complaint management are handled professionally, in a courteous and efficient manner at all times.
- Undertake all environmental health functions appropriate to level of experience and qualifications.
- Undertake food complaints investigation and premises inspections and other health-related regulatory activities as required by Council.
- Maintain a current knowledge of industry developments, practice, and statutory responsibilities.

Essential & Desirable Criteria – Cadet Building Surveyor
Cadet Civil Engineer
Are you close to completing a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) degree? Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council is offering an opportunity for someone pursuing a career in Local Government to develop specialist technical skills within a supportive team environment, while continuing their tertiary studies.
The cadetship is a structured training and development program for students who have satisfactorily completed at least four semesters of their Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) degree and are currently completing their third or fourth year of study. To be eligible for this role, students need to have completed at least 96 credit points in a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil).
Key responsibilities include:
- Assist engineering design staff with the production of engineering designs as required.
- Assist engineering/technical works staff with practical completion of construction, maintenance and other related duties.
- Assist asset management staff with the preparation, implementation and review of asset management plans and actions as required.
- Assist Council with the collection of engineering related field data.
- Gain knowledge of current legislation, standards, policies and guidelines relevant to engineering/technical responsibilities and ensure that activities undertaken are compliant (including TfNSW, Australian Standards, Austroads guidelines, Aus-Spec specifications).
- Communicate problems, issues, risks, incidents and hazards in a timely manner.
- Perform allocated duties in a timely, cost effective and productive manner including the acquisition of ‘hands on, practical technical skills’ where appropriate.
- Other duties that might reasonably arise that are consistent with the incumbent’s level of competency and the principles of multi-skilling.
- Routine clerical and administrative tasks associated with work performed in the engineering services area.
- Satisfactory progression in a university level civil engineering degree course, leading to a Bachelor Of Engineering degree qualification.

This role, based in Gundagai, assists with water & sewer work whilst undertaking the on-the-job training component of a traineeship and learning water and sewer skills in the Local Government environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide support for works undertaken by the Water & Sewer team.
- Attend off-the-job structured training as required by the Training Agreement for the Traineeship, and other short courses as identified.
- Participate in a team environment by performing tasks withing the Water and Sewer section.

This role will ensure the positive development of young people in the community. Coordinate consultation with young people and stakeholders, planning and developing, managing, and evaluating Council’s Youth services, programs and facilities to ensure they are high quality, well promoted and meet the needs of young people in our communities.
Work with and support Community Organisations in the development and maintenance of Community Services in Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council as an integral and coordinated part of local service provision.
Key responsibilities include:

This position will be to operate plant, being the Backhoe, to undertake Council works as directed by the Works Supervisor and contribute to the manual labour pool within the Civil Works Department at Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Ensures plant is operated effectively and efficiently to achieve Council’s goals and objectives.
- Ensures plant is maintained on a daily basis following manufacturer’s specifications and kept in a clean and tidy state.

PARKS & GARDENS ATTENDANT – COOTAMUNDRA (Full time)
Applications are invited from interested persons for the full-time vacancy of Parks & Gardens Attendant to be based at our Cootamundra Depot.
This position will be to operate parks and gardens plant, including mowers, tractors, street sweepers, elevated work platform and spray equipment, as directed by the Parks Foreman, and contributes to the manual labour pool within the Facilities Department.
To provide general labouring, maintenance and garbage collection services at Council’s parks, gardens, plantations, and sporting facilities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Carry out duties as directed to maintain Council’s parks, gardens, plantations, and sporting fields to a high level of presentation/visual amenity and preparedness for users of these facilities and the general public.
- Operate grounds keeping and gardening tools and equipment effectively and efficiently, following Safe Work Method Statements and manufacturer’s instructions to achieve Council’s goals and objectives.
- Support the Parks and Gardens team to supply labour on work activities as directed.
