GUNDAGAI VILLAGES FLOOD STUDY – Project Update (2 July 2026)
Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) commenced the Gundagai Villages Flood Study in 2024.
Council engaged HydroStorm Consulting to undertake the study for the villages of Coolac, Nangus, Tumblong and Darbalara, as well as properties within the Murrumbidgee River floodplain outside the Gundagai urban area.
During the initial stages of the study, it was identified that additional ground survey data was required to improve the accuracy of the flood modelling and ensure reliable study outcomes.
Unfortunately, the surveying firm engaged to undertake these works has not completed the required survey in a timely manner, resulting in delays to the project. The survey is now anticipated to be completed shortly, after which HydroStorm Consulting will recommence the flood modelling and continue progressing the study.
The completion of the Gundagai Villages Flood Study is an important step in improving Council’s understanding of flood behaviour across the affected communities. The study will provide a robust technical basis for flood risk management, land use planning, emergency response planning, and future infrastructure investment. Once finalised, it will assist Council, emergency services, residents and developers to make informed decisions that improve community resilience and reduce the impacts of future flood events.
