Vandals have struck again and have caused thousands of dollars’ worth of damage to roller doors in Cootamundra’s Nicholson Park.

An attempted break in at the canteen damaged the roller doors which will have to be replaced at an estimated cost of $4000. The intended thieves didn’t gain access and there was nothing of any value in the building.

Cootamundra police are investigating, and Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) will be required to replace the doors as they are no longer operational.

CGRC Mayor Charlie Sheahan said he was disappointed that our communities have to endure this unsocial behaviour costing time, money and delivery of services.

“These senseless acts of vandalism and destruction are costing rate payers thousands and thousands of dollars, not just in the replacement and repair of damaged items, the man hours our teams are using to do the work, is also a huge cost. It takes them away from providing services to our communities. I urge anyone with information or witnesses acts of vandalism to please call the police immediately or inform Council, we need to stop this irresponsible behaviour and mindless waste of money,” Cr Sheahan said.
