Patrons at Cootamundra’s War Memorial Library will have a more enjoyable experience when visiting the library after planned renovations are completed by the end of March.

The renovations will see the library closed from Thursday 22 February 2024, with reduced services during the renovation period. However, the staff will still be hard at work as they move into the Stephen Ward rooms.

Patrons can utilise the click and collect option, with home deliveries available. Library staff will available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Fridays for home delivery services.

In that time, the following services WILL be available:

  • Borrowing: The collection is being moved to the Stephen Ward Rooms and patrons can access it through sending orders through by phone or email. Collection is from the Stephen Ward rooms or through the free daily home delivery service. There will be no in-person access to the collection for browsing.
  • Borrow Box is available for e audio and e books.
  • Justice of the Peace: services still available by appointment (phone or email first) on 69 402 200 or Cootamundra.library@cgrc.nsw.gov.au

Unfortunately, the library will not be able to offer the following regular services:

  • Children’s Programs: Storytime and Baby Bounce will not be running. HOWEVER, the library will have a special Storytime session with children’s author Catherine Rains on Wednesday February 28 at 10am in the Civic Hall.
  • After school: School children will not be able to attend the library after school.
  • Computer tutoring and computer access: Will not be available. WiFi will still be available outside the building.
  • Social groups: Chess, U3A, Probus, mahjong, knitting and social card games will be held in alternative venues.
  • Meeting room hire: As the library collection will be in the Stephen Ward Rooms, the rooms will not be available for hire.
  • Library borrowing services: Will be available through home delivery and Click and Collect from the Stephen Ward meeting rooms attached to the branch. There will be no access to computers, no children’s programs, and no social groups during this time.

The refurbishment includes, new carpet, painting, lighting, new computer desks and circulation desk and new computers for public use and has been made possible with grant funding from the NSW Government Stronger Country Communities Fund.

Library staff are excited about the refurbishment and are looking forward to patrons enjoying a more environmentally sustainable, energy-efficient and upgraded library experience.
