DRESS FOR THE SLIDE NOT THE RIDE:
Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) has again supported the Motorcycle Council of NSW initiative, October is Motorcycle Awareness Month, with events held in Cootamundra and Gundagai promoting motorcycling safety and encouraging drivers to be more aware of motorcyclists on the road.
The event held in Cootamundra on 1 October saw 28 motorcyclists assemble at the Max Whitteron Gardens in Wallendoon Street. The bikers enjoyed a BBQ and were able to assist the CGRC Road Safety Officer with getting the message out to motorists about looking out for them on the road. The impressive line up of bikes was a spectacle for passing pedestrians who were all keen to talk and learn more about motorcycle safety and awareness.
Over 30 bikers took to road and attended the event in Gundagai on 15 October, held in picturesque Carberry Park, a sausage sizzle, free coffee and giveaways were popular with all passing visitors who were keen to check out the bikes and talk to the riders.
Local police from Cootamundra and Gundagai also attended the events and were supportive of the initiative. The Police Motorcycles were a popular attraction, with many getting a close up look at the machines.
Whilst the mornings events were successful in raising awareness of motorcycles on the road, another subject that was discussed was the importance of rider safety, protective gear and bike safety. With a positive message coming from a biker “Dress for Slide, not the Ride”, reiterating the importance of protective gear, being prepared and having first aid knowledge.
