The devastating floods of 2016 and 2022 in Cootamundra are a timely reminder that future flooding is most likely, and that the community needs to be warned as early as possible to undertake safe actions.
With that in mind, Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) engaged consultants Water Technology to review the current flood warning system for Cootamundra and recommend potential improvements for the future.
The community now can comment on the draft flood warning review report.
“In August, Council asked members of the community to provide their memories of recent flooding and discuss how flood warning could be improved, CGRC mayor Councillor Abb McAlister said.
“The report uses this consultation and talks with NSW SES and the Bureau of Meteorology to make 20 recommendations to improve the flood warning provided for residents and businesses in Cootamundra.
The recommendations are aimed at increasing the effectiveness of the flood warning system and reducing the risk to life and property within Cootamundra township,” Cr McAlister added.
