Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC), councillors endorsed the recommendation to introduce a new fee structure to foster a greater use of the iconic Town Hall in Cootamundra at the Ordinary meeting held on Tuesday 24 June 2025.

The new fee structure will enable potential users to “dry” hire all or part sections of the Town Hall area for events. Dry hiring is a term used where the user sets up and supplies their own equipment and leaves the area clean and tidy.

CGRC mayor Cr Abb McAlister said he hoped the new fee structure would encourage use.

“The Town Hall and adjoining Civic Centre have facilities that include a commercial kitchen, bar, stage, dressing and storage rooms. They are a wonderful resource and can be utilised for large or small ventures. In the past, our overstretched staff have been responsible for the set-up, pull-down and cleaning of the spaces. This service had to be reflected in the cost of hiring. The new fees will now allow potential users to offset the cost by taking on those duties themselves,” Cr McAlister said.

The use of the facilities can be tailor made to suit the proposed event and number of people attending. “Dry” hire fees will be applied to the use of the whole Town Hall including the kitchen, bar, civic hall and other sections, or specific areas only.
