Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC), Animal Care Facility (ACF), has received some valuable donations from Hilltops Council, Greyhound Rescue, KONG, LickiMat, PawPawUp and the community recently that will assist with delivering a high standard of care to animals whilst in care at CGRC’s Animal Care Facility. The items donated allow for the enrichment, stimulation, and comfort for animals during their stay at the ACF and ease the financial pressure for cost of food, supplies and other necessities that come with the vast increase of animals being surrendered, abandoned and unclaimed.

Hilltops Council shared a large donation of cat food from a shop that had unfortunately experienced major flood damage in the Harden storm event. This donation eases some pressure for Rangers as there is a massive increase in the number of cats coming into care at the ACF.

The CGRC Ranger was recently involved in rescuing and rehoming Pogo, an ex-racing greyhound. The ranger contacted Greyhound Rescue to ask for their help in finding Pogo a safe place to stay. Greyhound Rescue were able to assist and collected the dog. Greyhound Rescue returned two weeks later to offer a very generous donation of food, treats, toys, bedding, towels, collars, leads and dog coats to the ACF in appreciation for helping to save Pogo.

Contact was made with KONG seeking a donation of enrichment items to the ACF for the dogs to use and have during their stay. Enrichment is extremely important for dogs and provides mental stimulation, they also help to relieve stress and boredom. KONG came on board and donated a number of their products for use at the ACF.

LickiMat a company that produces enrichment items has also made a very generous donation to the ACF. Lickimat generously donated seven boxes of their products that provide enrichment and reduce anxiety for both dogs and cats. Some of the other donations the ACF have received include, toys, cat trees and slow feeder bowls from PawPawUp. food donations from Cooper Street Animal Rescue, blankets, and bedding donations from the community.

CGRC Mayor Councillor Abb McAlister said the donations make a great deal of difference to the experience these animals have during their stay at the ACF.

“I would like to acknowledge those organisations and companies who have donated these items to the Animal Care Facility. On behalf of Council, Councillors, and the community I extend our heartfelt thanks to all who have made these generous donations.

Impounding animals is never a pleasant experience, our rangers often go above and beyond in making sure that the animal’s experience whilst in their care is comfortable, caring and compassionate. These items assist with delivering humane and benevolent amenities to the animals as the locating or rehoming process is undertaken,” Mayor McAlister said.

Donations of clean towels and bedding are always welcome at the Cootamundra ACF. If you have a donation for the Animal Care Facility, please contact CGRC on 1300 459 689.
