The Australian Meat Group (AMG) pumps tens of millions of dollars into the Cootamundra and regional economy every year and their position has been made even more secure with the state-of-the-art expansion and more improvements are in the pipeline.

Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) Mayor Abb McAlister and Interim General Manager, Roger Bailey were given a thorough tour through the Cootamundra AMG Plant. The visit hosted by AMG’s plant manager, Chris Allen provided Mr Bailey and Mayor McAlister with an overview of the upgrades and expansion projects at the Cootamundra site. AMG currently has about 380 employees working on the site contributing to the Cootamundra and region’s economy and source 90% of their cattle from within three hours of Cootamundra.

CGRC mayor Councillor Abb McAlister said he welcomed the input AMG have provided for the region.

“As most would be aware, I’m a stocky from way back and truly understand the benefits a plant such as this has on the local economy. Our businesses profit, our farmers have a market for their stock and the staff at AMG have brought a colourful and charming culture for our communities to enjoy.

The commitment AMG have put into this facility and region will have far reaching improvements for all”, Cr McAlister said.

A spokesperson for AMG said “the new Cootamundra plant represents an exciting addition to AMG’s existing established Dandenong (VIC) operations, featuring cutting-edge technology and innovative upgrades. The plant is poised for further growth with the forthcoming lamb development project, reinforcing AMG’s dedication to meeting market demands.”

“AMG maintains strong relationships with top pasture and grain fed suppliers, sourcing beef from the region with 100% traceability. AMG is also deeply engaged with the local community, contributing significantly to the regional economy and fostering a strong sense of inclusivity” the AMG spokesperson added.

In the coming months AMG is expecting to submit an application to the State Government as a State Significant Development for their next stage.
