Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) is currently undertaking a survey that will give a greater understanding of the community’s flood preparedness and recovery processes.
The survey seeks input from the community to assist with how Council can support residents in future disaster events. The data received from the survey will prioritise Council’s efforts in supporting the community to be more resilient and informative in flood disasters. Council will be able to support and fund strategies and initiatives that will benefit the community such information resources, disaster and emergency type training, workshops or organising fun community events.
CGRC’s newly appointed Community Recovery Officer (CRO), Penelope King said:
“The aim is to provide all community members, businesses, volunteer groups, emergency agencies in the LGA to be more equipped in recovering a disaster.”
The Community Recovery Officers role has been jointly funded for 12 months by the Albanese and Minns Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, (DRFA).
Ten new Community Recovery Officers (CROs) have been funded and are to help with ongoing recovery efforts following flooding in August and September 2022 in LGA’s across NSW, which included Berrigan, Cabonne, Central Darling, Cootamundra-Gundagai, Edward River, Gunnedah, Moree, Murray River, Narrabri and Wentworth. The officers will be embedded in local councils and will collaborate with local community groups and other disaster management response and recovery stakeholders.
Local residents are encouraged to participate in the survey which can be found on the CGRC website at: https://www.cgrc.nsw.gov.au/cgrc-flood-recovery/ or on Council’s Facebook page, for those who cannot access either please call into the Council’s Administration Offices in Wallendoon Street Cootamundra or Sheridan Street Gundagai.
