FROSTY MORNING TURNS BRILLIANT FOR LG WEEK:
After a frosty start the sun shone brilliantly for Council’s Local Government Week open mornings last week.
Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) hosted the two open mornings to celebrate Local Government Week on Tuesday in Cootamundra and Thursday in Gundagai.
The events were an opportunity for residents and visitors to view Council services, take home important information and handy tips.
In Cootamundra the day started out being a very frosty morning, when the sun came out it was delightful for all to enjoy a sunny morning, with the aroma of sausages and onions wafting through the Max Whitteron Gardens in the CGRC Admin and Library precinct. Displays from Council’s Road Safety Officer offered advice on a host of road safety information along with giveaways, whilst other departments had on offer information pertaining to weed control, cemeteries, companion animals and the very handy REROC Fire and Flood preparation booklet. Visitors could get up close and personal with a selection of Council machinery, which proved a hit for the youngsters to sit in.
Gundagai’s morning started off similar to that in Cootamundra, with a frost followed by a splendid warm day, where the sunshine was welcomed by all. Councillors Penny Nicholson and Abb McAlister kept the little ones mesmerised at story-time held in the Gundagai Library, whilst residents and visitors were able to partake in a delicious sausage sizzle ably cooked by CGRC staff members in Carberry Park adjacent to the CGRC Administration and Council Chambers. Giveaways and information packages were handed out to visitors during the morning that included information and products about Japanese encephalitis, weed control, cemeteries, keeping of companion animals, Fire and Flood preparation along with important life saving information on road safety.
CGRC Mayor Gil Kelly attended both open mornings and said it was wonderful to see so many turn out and celebrate Local Government Week with staff.
“Local Government Week is all about showcasing Councils services offered by Council. Councils deliver so much more than roads, rates, and rubbish. The items and information on display reflect a host of services delivered by Council. It was also a great opportunity for residents and visitors to speak with Councillors, CGRC staff in an informal environment, and watch our littlest residents enjoy a story, a sausage sizzle and perhaps be a future crop of Council machine operators,” Cr Kelly said.
