The 2024 Local Government elections will be held on 14 September 2024. Nominations for candidates will close on the 14 August 2024.

Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) will be hosting two pre-selection briefings where community members can learn about becoming a candidate and potential Councillor. These briefings will be held on Thursday, 8 August 2024 from 3pm to 6:30pm in Alby Schultz Room Cooper Street Cootamundra and on

Friday, 9 August 2024 from 3pm to 6:30pm in Gundagai Council Chambers Sheridan Street Gundagai.

CGRC Mayor Gil Kelly said this was the perfect opportunity for community minded and spirited people to put their hand up and make a difference in the community.

“Being a councillor is standing proud and being prepared to be a voice for your community. It’s rewarding, its character building, and the good far outweighs any negatives. As councillors we can take pride in what is achieved within our communities, we can lobby and voice our concerns to State and Federal Governments about the needs of our communities,” Mayor Kelly said.

The pre-election candidate briefings will be delivered by Local Government NSW’s Leanne Barnes, and will include information on how to nominate, understanding essential information and legal obligations, the registration process to initiate campaigning, managing campaign finances, navigating the nominations process, creating electoral material, and ensuring compliance with disclosures and electoral expenditure regulations. Attendees will have the opportunity speak with current Councillors and CGRC staff.

We see lots of rhetoric and plenty of people have a voice on social media or in the pub, these upcoming Council elections are an opportunity that only come around every four years, it’s the opportunity for those and others to have that voice heard. The only way to make a change is to stand up and be heard,” Mayor Kelly added.

The pre-selection briefings are a free event and are open all who are interested in becoming a Councillor.
