The refurbishment and renovations currently being undertaken by Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council at the Gundagai Visitor Information Centre (VIC) are coming along with most of the demolition work being completed in the last week.

Council’s contractors Dalski Constructions & Infrastructure have moved onto the replacement of roof truces and internal structures in preparation for the fit out.

The $450,000 project has been funded by The NSW State Governments Stronger Country Community Fund Round 5 and the New Council Implementation Stronger Community Fund.

When completed the newly refurbished Visitor Information Centre will see new a Changing Places toilet facility installed. Changing Places toilets are specialized toilet facilities that provide suitable equipment and space for people with complex disabilities who need assistance. They are different from standard accessible toilets, which may not meet the needs of some people with high support needs. Changing Places toilets enable people with complex disabilities to participate in community life without worrying about finding a suitable toilet.

The VIC will also be upgraded to meet modern day needs, expanding the existing display areas for visitors to enjoy the range of local products on sale. The room housing Rusconi’s Marble Masterpiece will also see modernisation. Electrical and plumbing upgrades along with new offices will see the Visitor Information Centre in Gundagai set for the future demands of an increasing visitor numbers to the area.
