Safety Works at Gundagai Viaduct on Oibell Drive and Middleton Drive
UGL Regional Linx (UGLRL) operates and maintains the Country Regional Network (CRN) on behalf of Transport for NSW.
Since November 2022, UGLRL has been carrying out safety related works below the non-operational Gundagai Viaduct on the CRN.
Temporary construction works are being completed at Oibell Drive and Middleton Drive in three stages.

Start Date
Stage 3 of the underbridge construction works will commence from 29 March 2023.
Why is the work being completed?
The installation of safety netting will help protect the public travelling along Oibell Drive and Middleton Drive by reducing the risk of falling debris from the historic structure. The construction work will keep the same height clearances in the area.
Project Timeline
Stage 1 – Construction of Bridge Monitoring Equipment at Oibell Drive and Middleton Drive – Completed in November 2022.
Stage 2 – Installation of Walkway Hoarding at Middleton Drive Footpath – Completed in November 2022.
Stage 3 – Construction of Steel Structures and Safety Netting at Oibell Drive and Middleton Drive. Construction works will commence from 29 March 2023 and finish in May 2023, weather permitting. Construction works will be conducted between 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday and between 8am and 1pmon Saturdays.
Road closures
Some full and partial road closures will be required to allow the construction works to be completed, including:
Partial road closures proposed 29 March – 4 April 2023, 5 – 6 April, 11-13 April and 16 – 19 May 2023.
Full road closures proposed for 24-hour periods from 22- 25 May 2023.
These dates may change if there are any unforeseen circumstances such as wet weather that delay the works. Variable message signs will be in place to inform the community and motorists, 5 days prior to the road closure, on Middleton Drive.
How will the community be affected?
During construction works there will be additional noise, interruptions to traffic and traffic detours due to road closures. There will also be extra vehicle and machinery movements in the area. The roads will remain open for vehicle access while the construction works are completed for all activities except for the Steelwork Installation at Middleton Drive between 22- 25 May 2023.
UGLRL will continue to work with Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council and Transport for NSW to minimise the impact on the community where possible.
