Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) has received $4.6 million in road funding courtesy of the NSW State Government Fixing Local Roads Program Rounds 1 and 2.

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke was in Cootamundra last week, to mark the occasion and to inspect one of the three roads earmarked for renewal work in the last round of funding.

Round Two of the Fixing Local Roads Funding saw $532,500 from the Fixing Local Roads program awarded to CGRC.

CGRC mayor Cr Abb McAlister said, three projects in Cootamundra will begin soon.

These projects include Warralong Road in Cootamundra ($187,500) is a gravel road on the outskirts of the township. The funding will allow Council to commence the first stage of works in reconstruction and sealing the road. Brawlin Road in Cootamundra ($157,500), a highly maintained gravel road, which requires a lot of maintenance with more than one kilometre of sealed surface and reconstruction works commence. French Street in Cootamundra ($187,500), an urban street which suffers from drainage issues that has resulted in pavement failures and damage to the kerb and gutter, will see a rehabilitation project undertaken.

Ms Cooke along with CGRC general manager, Phil McMurray, Cr Abb McAlister and manager for civil works Mark Ellis, took a tour along French Street in Cootamundra to see firsthand how the money will be spent and the nature of the work that needs to be carried out.

Ms Cooke said the funding would help improve road safety in the region.

“We want everyone who uses our roads to get home safely, and part of reaching this goal is ensuring our road network is up to scratch,” Ms Cooke said.

“This funding joins $4,073,926 from round one of this great program which enabled 11 local road projects to get underway.”

“I am pleased the NSW Government is investing in improving road safety across the region.”

Mayor Abb McAlister said the council welcomed the support.

“Council is very appreciative of the hard work Steph has put in to get this funding,” Cr McAlister said.

“The more funding, we can get the safer our roads will be which is our highest priority at the end of the day.”

“Roads are one of the biggest jobs a Council faces, and we thank Steph for her help.”
