Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) will commence the final work on the Sheridan and West Street intersection.
The intersection has seen a lot of work carried out over the last six months, with the realignment of traffic lanes, and changes to signage at the intersection, all designed to ensure safer movement of traffic through the area.
The road itself has been upgraded with deflection testing carried out in September last year to identify any faulty areas within the pavement and assess the strength of the existing road pavement. The concluding part of the work will be the laying of the Hotmix overlay which will commence on Tuesday 6 April and completed by Tuesday 13 April 2021.
Detour plans will be in place during this final construction phase and some sections of Sheridan Street and West Street will be closed. Alternate detours via Punch and Sheridan Lane will be used. Where complete road closure is necessary Council will attempt to provide pedestrian access to key business outlets (such as Woolworths, Gundagai Services Club, Gundagai Neighbourhood Centre, Tourist Information Centre Gundagai Library, and adjacent Motels).
Detailed plans of work activities showing the road closures and detours will be on display at the Gundagai Council Offices in Sheridan Street and on the CGRC website.
CGRC mayor Cr Abb McAlister said he was pleased the intersection will be completed.
“This is the icing on the cake, so to speak, the installation of the Hotmix overlay will provide a longer more enduring road surface and I’m delighted that we will see this work completed,” Cr McAlister said.
