Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) councillors voted to enter into an agreement with Canberra based property developers Paramount Concrete Constructions Pty Ltd on Tuesday night.
The extraordinary meeting was called so Councillors could discuss the first phase of what could be a major development opportunity for Gundagai’s Dog on the Tuckerbox site.
Paramount Concrete Constructions were successful in their bid when Council called for Expressions of Interest to develop the site in October 2018. The company are respected developers particularly in the Canberra region.
The company will prepare a Masterplan for the site, which will be put to Council and open for public consultation.
Acknowledging the significance of the Dog on the Tuckerbox site and Limestone Inn ruins, Council will retain ownership of these historical sites to preserve them for future generations.
CGRC mayor Cr Abb McAlister said the development will ensure the area 5 miles from Gundagai will remain an important site for all to enjoy now and into the future.
“We’ve seen recently the outpouring of public opinion around the Dog on the Tuckerbox, it’s an important area not just for Gundagai but as part of Australia’s folk history. This exciting phase of developing the site only reinforces Councils commitment to the area and what it means to all Australians,” Cr McAlister said.
Paramount Concrete Constructions must have the Masterplan lodged with Council within 12 months.
