Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) will commence work on the replacement of the footbridge between
Scott and Cutler Avenues on Monday 20 September 2021, weather permitting.
The new footbridge will be wider with safe approaches and suitable for mobility assisted uses. Identified as a mobility
concern in CGRC’s Pedestrian Access Mobility Plan (PAMP), funding was sourced from the Australian Government’s
Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCI).
The LRCI Program aims to assist a community-led recovery from COVID-19 by supporting local jobs, firms, and
procurement. It is expected Council, where possible, will use local businesses and workforces to deliver projects under
the LRCI Program to ensure stimulus funding flows into local communities.
The $60,000 project will see the old footbridge will be demolished and a new safer and more accessible footbridge and
handrail installed, the expected time frame for the construction of the new footbridge is a month.
The existing footbridge will be closed to pedestrians during the construction period. Pedestrians will need to detour via
footbridge between Mackay Street and Inala Place or any other preferable routes during the construction time.
Alternatively, Pedestrians can access the CBD from the Cutler Avenue walkway to Crown Street.
CGRC mayor Cr Abb McAlister said the funding was very welcome and the new footbridges will improve accessibility
for all.
“This is a great program, and we are very grateful to the Australian Government and our local Federal Member of
Parliament Michael McCormack. Improving accessibility encourages people of all abilities to get out and enjoy the
environment,” Cr McAlister said.
Council plans to replace the footbridge between Mackay Street and Inala Place under the same funding program.
CGRC’s total funding under the Australian Governments LRCI Phase 1 Program is $985,552.
