Swimming Pool Set for Big Splash

Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council’s (CGRC) Cootamundra outdoor swimming pool will open on Monday 18th November for the 2019/2020 Summer Swimming Season.

Part of the pool grounds are currently closed off due to the construction of a Splash Water Park.

The Splash Water Park project has been funded by the NSW State Government initiative the Stronger Communities Fund and is administered by CGRC.

The $400,000 project is seen by CGRC as a much needed facility for young children. The splash park will be installed in the existing pool area and is an alternative to swimming pools for many families who are concerned about water safety for their children because there is no standing water, the need for lifeguards or other supervision is reduced, and there is little risk of drowning.

The project hopes to achieve a Splash Park that services the needs and provides enjoyment for children between the ages of 1 to 12 during the hot summer months stimulating additional activity while utilising the other pool facilities. Investigations show that children benefit from cooling down and getting much needed exercise. Further, water play provides a rich sensory experience for the developing child. Playing with water is important for young child’s sensory integration and development.

CGRC mayor Cr Abb McAlister said this project will provide many benefits for children.

“This project will provide play activities for young children, and assist the very young with playful introductions to water safety,” Cr McAlister said.

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke MP said this was another project that would bring long term benefits to the community.

“This is a project that will really benefit the young children of the region, by providing them with a space to safely enjoy swimming.  I’m looking forward to seeing this one completed in the very near future,” Ms Cooke said.

The project is expected to be completed in December pending the arrival of equipment from America and Canada.
