Cootamundra’s Pioneer Park will be closed over the Easter break due to public safety concerns following a Rural Fire Service controlled hazard reduction burn last weekend.

The hazard reduction burn was conducted by the RFS to reduce the risk of bushfire and reduce the amount of flammable fuel within the park.

The decision to keep the park closed over the Easter weekend, was reached by the RFS and Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council as several hot spots have been identified.

Acting Manager for Regional Services Cootamundra, Mr Steve Lowe said the closure was a precaution and in the interests of public safety.

“The hazard reduction burn was very successful, and the area is being monitored by the RFS, both organisations felt that due to hot spots still smouldering it would be in the best interest of public safety to keep the park closed. We apologise for the inconvenience and will open the park when it’s safe to do so,” Mr Lowe said.
