Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) libraries in Gundagai and Cootamundra will reopen on Monday 1st June, with limited opening hours.

Council library staff are currently putting in place measures to ensure the safety of staff and visitors when they reopen on Monday the 1st of June. A maximum of ten customers at any one time will be permitted into the library to pick up reservations, select and borrow items. Numbers will be strictly monitored and customers will be required to act on the advice of library staff, observe social distancing and practice good hygiene. This will include using the provided hand sanitiser on entering the library. Patrons are asked to use return chutes and self-loan stations which staff clean regularly. Returned library items will continue to be quarantined for 72 hours and cleaned thoroughly before being available for borrowing.

Limited opening hours are Monday –Friday 10:00am to 4.00pm (Gundagai closed for lunch from 12.30pm -1.00pm) and Cootamundra is also open Saturday morning from 9:30am -12.00pm. The reduced hours will allow for cleaning.

Deliveries will continue for vulnerable community members and those self-isolating and Council encourages people to take advantage of the fantastic on-line e-resources such as StoryBox, Ancestry, Borrow Box and Kanopy. These enhanced library services are available to residents across the region, through the Riverina Regional Library (RRL).

Groups and regular library activities such as story time will not resume at this time and there will limited computer access for short periods and Free WiFi remains available.

CGRC mayor Cr Abb McAlister said he was pleased that restrictions across the state were easing, but warned all residents to remain vigilant.

“It’s great that our libraries will be welcoming back patrons, they are such an important part of many residents lives, I urge you, please if you have flu like symptoms, even mild ones, or are feeling unwell, please do not visit the libraries, or in fact anywhere where you could come in contact with others,” Cr McAlister said.

“To ease restrictions further, we need to look after ourselves and others, remain cautious, and act with courtesy and respect,” Cr McAlister said.
