COOTAMUNDRA CEMETERY MASTERPLAN PROJECT:
The purpose of this project is to develop a long-term, practical, and respectful plan that will guide the future management and development of the Cootamundra Cemetery.
Council’s vision for the cemetery is to create a well-presented, dignified, and functional place that meets the needs of the local community, respects the surrounding landscape, and reflects the cultural diversity of Cootamundra. The cemetery is recognised as an important public open space that commemorates the town’s history and contributes to its landscape character, Section 3 of the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2013 (NSW)
The objective of this project is to develop a comprehensive, holistic Cemetery Master Plan to guide the long-term development strategy, spatial framework and future management of the Cootamundra Cemetery (the Cemetery).
The Master Plan is required to:
- Balance the operational needs of a working cemetery with the expectations of the local community.
- Be informed by consultation with stakeholders including community members, industry representatives, and Section 3 of the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2013 (NSW).
- Recognise the cemetery as an important element of the town’s public open space network and as a place that commemorates local history and cultural diversity.
- Offer solutions that are maintainable, sustainable, and capable of being implemented over time.
