The CGRC Youth Hubs have become welcoming spaces where young people from across the region can gather, connect and feel supported. More than just a place to spend time after school, the Hubs provide safe and comfortable environments where local youth can socialise with friends, work on homework or projects, and connect with community service organisations when support or guidance is needed.
Both the Cootamundra and Gundagai Youth Hubs are equipped with a variety of resources and activities including computers, laptops, Nintendo Switch gaming, movies, colouring and painting activities, bead making, books, board games and even a mini pool table. Young people can also access assistance with homework, resumes and important documents in a relaxed and supportive environment. Free after-school snacks and drinks are available, helping create a welcoming space where everyone feels comfortable and included.
The Hubs also provide access to dignity bags and blessing bags, available free of charge from the bathroom vanities. Young people do not need to ask staff or advise anyone if they take one, ensuring privacy and dignity for those who may need extra support.
A number of community organisations regularly operate from the Cootamundra Youth Hub, helping strengthen connections and support networks for local families and young people. Mission Australia attends the Cootamundra Hub every Thursday from 3pm to 5pm, offering guidance and support services for youth. Intereach hosts its popular “Wiggle and Giggle” program on Tuesday mornings from 9am to 11am, bringing together mums, bubs and carers in a friendly social setting where children can play, dance and interact while parents connect over conversation and coffee. Intereach also reopens the Cootamundra Hub on Tuesday afternoons from 3pm to 5pm. The CGRC Youth Officer is available at the Cootamundra Hub every Monday and Wednesday from 3pm to 5pm, providing activities, support and engagement opportunities for local youth, and in Gundagai on Tuesday and Thursday from 3pm to 5pm.
The outdoor spaces at both locations also encourage physical activity and social interaction. In Gundagai, the Youth Hub is positioned within a recreational precinct alongside the Gundagai Netball Courts, promoting active lifestyles and spontaneous games with friends. The Hub is also conveniently located opposite the Gundagai Swimming Pool and Gymnasium, creating even more opportunities for recreation and wellbeing.
In Cootamundra, the Youth Hub is located within the historic Old Cootamundra Hospital building. Rich in heritage and significance, the site remains an important landmark for the community, with its architecture and history reflecting the town’s strong connection to its past. Today, the building has been revitalised into a vibrant community space that supports a wide range of youth and family programs.
